In his solo exhibition Heroes and Monsters, Hannes Köcher presents hybrid art, pictures made by man and machine. Physical simulations of threads that are exposed to complex force fields in virtual worlds are transferred to the real world by drawing machines. Man thinks, programs and underlines. The machine executes and draws.
The current work deals with the transformation of portraits – photo templates of faces become abstract, ambiguous figures that serve as a projection surface. Monsters, heroes, archetypes are peeled from these templates in a multi-stage process.
